St. Gertrude School Dedicated a New Statue

St. Gertrude School dedicated a new statue at the annual May Crowning ceremony on May, 3, 2011. The beautiful marble statue which was commissioned to commemorate the school’s 75 Anniversary was produced by Mark Sedacca of Fountain Specialists Company in Milford.

As one of the most distinguished of Saints, St. Gertrude was the first Saint to have Jesus appear to her to teach about his Sacred Heart. The statue will be a daily reminder to the students at St. Gertrude School that there is a Saint in heaven, a person in heaven, who will be teaching them, guiding them each and every day.

The project, led by Sister Mary Sheila, O.P., Principal of St. Gertrude School, was a collaboration and effort of parents, students and parishioners who made the project possible by their generous donations.
A special inscription reads:

St. Gertrude School 75th Anniversary.
Dedicated to the Friars, Sisters, Faculty and Staff of St. Gertrude School throughout history and into the future. May you always lead young hearts to Christ!
Special thanks to Sister Mary David Harlow, O.P.,
Sister Henry Suso Fletcher, O.P.,
Mrs. Judy Bayer

The school community gathered prior to the May Crowning Procession to dedicate and bless the statue and honor its rich history. The statue which lights up the school at night is like a beacon for the parish and reminds all of us of its valuable place in the community. Faculty and staff were especially delighted to honor their long-time school secretary. Mrs. Judy Bayer, who has held the position for 33 years and has ministered to countless students over that time. All of Judy’s children attended St. Gertrude School.
