Stewardship (Giving)

Stewardship and Development 05/13/12

Flexible schedule. Discretionary time. Special skills. Unique training. A desire to help. These are all hallmarks of what could be in a stewards resume or a job description seeking a good steward. Over the past six months, I have shared in this space many examples of how stewardship is really like an action verb. Volunteering is good for the soul and for the community! While the gene for faithful stewardship lies within each of us, it needs to be developed and nurtured, just like learning a trade, a sport, or a craft.

Stewardship and Development 05/06/12

"Children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth."— 1 John 3:18

How do we love in deed and truth? A simple answer is through stewardship — giving our time, sharing our gifts, and donating from our means — which supports the work of the Church. There are several themes in that one scripture quote that are especially pertinent to our labors of love in our parish. First, as John addresses "children," I reflect on how impressed I am that our Youth Stewardship Program continues to produce wonderful acts of kindness and simple offerings for the St. Gertrude Charitable Fund. Then, I was touched by the words "love… word…speech."
