Twinning Committee

The St. Gertrude Parish Twinning Commission exists to develop a communion of faith and fellowship with our partner parishes. For the past five years St Gertrude’s has had an active relationship with Dominican twinning partners in Kenya. We will continue to share with them in the future. We also have an exciting opportunity to form a twinning relationship with St. Leo’s the Great Church in North Fairmont. St. Leo’s is a diverse 125 year old parish that has recently welcomed African and Hispanic refugees. They are very interested in building spiritual, personal, social, and cultural ties with our parish.

The twinning committee is looking for volunteers to work with St.Leo’s to help support their ministries. Father Jim Schutte, pastor, visited St. Gertrude’s to share his ideas. They have immediate opportunities for us to help with a new farmer’s co-op which is training and providing jobs for refugees. They need help selling vegetables at Findley Market (Saturday and Sunday) or working on their farm, located in North Fairmont. There are additional opportunities for English speakers to help with English language classes, food pantry volunteers, and volunteers to help keep books for their organic farm co-op. This is a unique opportunity for school classes, parish groups, or individuals to meet and interact with church members from other cultures. The St. Gertrude’s Twinning committee meets at 7:00pm on the second Tuesday of the month in the parish library. We hope to share our talents, faith, and gifts with St. Leo’s Church. We welcome new people and fresh ideas. Please join us!
