An Important Message about the New Mass Translation
In order to help all Catholics in the archdiocese better prepare for the implementation of the beautiful new translations of the Roman Missal, in Advent of this year, Archbishop Schnurr has given permission to begin using the Ordinary parts of the Mass before Advent. The Ordinary consists of the Glory to God, the Holy, Holy, Holy, the Memorial Acclamation, and the Lamb of God.
The Glory to God has the most changes in text. The changes in other parts are far fewer. We here at St. Gertrude’s will be introducing the new texts at all Masses on the weekend of October 8-9. Have no fear! You are not expected to know all the new words when you get to Mass on those dates! There will be pew cards ready and waiting for you with both the musical setting and the words. We have chosen to begin with a very simple, yet beautiful musical setting and one that you are already familiar with called "Mass of the Patriarchs." You have been hearing and singing this for the last few weeks so all that will be necessary is for you to follow along with the pew card and sing the new words. We hope to make this a smooth and easy transition. As we all gain familiarity and comfort with the new words we will, over the upcoming months, learn other musical settings and increase our repertoire, as a parish.
