Stewardship and Development 06/03/12
Feast of the Holy Trinity
“The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ …” Romans 8:16-17
If we are heirs to the kingdom of God, should we not work to build up that kingdom? Should we not be good stewards of all we have been blessed with and to care for the Church that God has left to us? Our Church is a treasured heirloom from God. Do we treat it that way? Last month, I wrote in this space about a sub-committee that formed to review our parish displays and entryways. Their charter was, in effect, to make our church as inviting to walk into as it is faith-forming. This can be a challenge when people don't live by the golden rule of bulletin boards and display tables: ask unto others as you would want asked of you! We have not been good stewards in that regard. If you would like to display information, I simply ask that you first request permission through my office. As for the committee's findings, I will be submitting their recommendations to our pastor by mid-June. If he approves, over the summer, furniture and boards may move, signs and displays may change, and some refurbishment will occur. Some of it will be obvious, while other changes will be subtle. It's our way of being responsible heirs to what has been entrusted to St. Gertrude Parish. — Jeff Plate, Director of Stewardship and Development
