Become Catholic

Christians believe the depths of God’s love for humanity are revealed in Jesus Christ. But, how does this revelation reach us today? How can we be sure that what we know about Jesus is really what He revealed about himself to the apostles? The passion, death, and resurrection took place nearly 2,000 years ago.

Jesus did not leave the world with a book, a series of Youtube tutorials, or a podcast. He left the world with a people that He established, a Church that he founded firmly upon Peter (cf. Mt. 16:18) – the Catholic Church.

For nearly 2,000 years, the Catholic Church has been faithfully devoted to the teaching of the apostles. The Church has offered people access to God through the proclamation of God’s word and the Sacraments He instituted. And the Church prays – not only for herself, but for the whole world. The Church is a communion of persons on a mission.
Spanning time and space, Catholics embrace a life of prayer, worship and service within the unifying structure of the Church. When a person becomes Catholic, he or she allows Christ to transform his or her life into a gift for others through the teaching and ministry of the Church.
To become Catholic is to allow Christ to transform your life into a gift for others – and, in giving yourself in service to others, you find yourself.

To become Catholic, to be part of the Church, is to embrace one’s part of a story that is over 2,000 years old.

The Become Catholic Program

St. Gertrude is happy to offer our Become Catholic program each year. This formation opportunity is specifically designed for non-Christians who are seeking baptism, and non-Catholic Christians who are seeking full communion with Church. It is also for those who are baptized Catholics, but who never received the other sacraments of initiation.

This program offers weekly spiritual and theological formation for adults entering into communion with the Catholic Church. Here are the details:
  • The annual Become Catholic program begins each September and spans until Pentecost (usually May/June of the following year)
  • We meet in the St. Gertrude Parish Center from 7-9pm on Monday evenings
  • Meetings consist of fellowship, catechetical instruction, prayer, and discussion.
  • Classes are usually taught by Dominican priests with lay leaders helping to promote prayer and lead discussions. Members of the parish community participate as sponsors, connecting with new Catholics, or those interested in becoming Catholic, and introducing them to the wider St. Gertrude community.

In addition to those interested in joining the Catholic faith, our formation course is open to adult Catholics who have been away from the practice of their faith or who are looking to "refresh" their understanding of the Catholic faith.
