On November 16, 2023 (the feast of St. Gertrude the Great), St. Gertrude Parish celebrated its 100th anniversary. To help us prepare for our centennial, we held a variety of amazing events during the year. Check out all the festivities below as we embark on our next 100 years.

St. Gertrude the Great Feast Day 2023Mass & Procession
Thursday, November 16 | 6:30 p.m. St. Gertrude Church Please join us for a solemn Mass for the solemnity of St. Gertrude the Great, followed by a candlelight procession around the parish grounds. Parish Celebration Saturday, November 18 | 5:30 p.m. St. Gertrude Parish Center After the 4:30 p.m. Mass, all are invited to a festive celebration of our parish patroness, featuring authentic German food, live music, and plenty of fun! |
Centennial GalaFriday, November 3 | 6:30-10:30 p.m.
The Manor House 7440 Mason Montgomery Rd, Mason, OH 45040 This fun evening of fellowship and celebrating our centennial will kick off with a cocktail hour at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner, music, live auction, and raffles. Father Henry Stephan, O.P., will emcee the event and conduct the live auction. Must be 21 to attend. All proceeds will go toward renovations and improvements for the parish and school. Due to high demand, we have opened up a few more seats at our big Gala fundraiser. But tickets are going fast—get yours before they’re gone for good:

#Unbreakable: A Father/Son Event
Saturday, September 23 | 12:30-3:30 p.m.
St. Gertrude Church Campus The Knights of Columbus Archbishop Elder Council #1195 and the St. Gertrude Parish Boosters hosted an event for fathers and their sons (K–8th grade). The event will included fun games and activities to encourage father and son teamwork, a motivational talk from Bengal Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz, a fun challenge for each father and son, and pizza and refreshments. Some fathers and sons ended the event with confession and 4:30 p.m. Mass. |
Parish Centennial Picnic
Saturday, August 19 | 5:30 p.m. (After 4:30 p.m. Mass)
St. Gertrude Parking Lot This joyous event marks a significant milestone as we continue to commemorate our 100th anniversary. The festivities will kick off with a blessing. Dinner, which will be a delicious pig roast with a variety of sides, delectable desserts, and refreshing drinks catered by Vonderhaar’s, will be served at approximately 5:30 p.m. We will also have a children’s menu, including hot dogs and macaroni and cheese. To add to the merriment, the 1960s Top 40 band Deja Vu will play from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Other activities include a strolling balloon artist, face painting, and temporary tattoos between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m., as well as a corn hole and gaga ball tournament. We invite everyone in our parish community, friends, and visitors to come together to make this year’s picnic a memorable occasion. We look forward to seeing you! Corpus Christi Procession
Sunday, June 11 | After 10 a.m. Mass
Madeira/St. Gertrude Parish Gym Join us after the 10 a.m. Mass as we process with the Blessed Sacrament down Miami Avenue through downtown Madeira to the city municipal building. Buses will be available to bring everyone back to St. Gertrude Church Parish Center for an ice cream social. Lenten True Presence Night

St. Gertrude Church | 7:30-8:30 p.m. Nationally acclaimed music group The Vigil Project presents an evening of live music, dynamic Lent-themed reflections, and a time of Eucharistic adoration to help you pray more deeply into this season and prepare for Christ’s resurrection at Easter. The Vigil Project is a nonprofit apostolate founded in 2016 by a community of musical artists with a common mission to make Catholic music for Catholic prayer. Featuring a collective of seasoned singer/songwriters and music leaders, TVP exists to invite the Church to a fresh encounter with God and to deep prayer through the experience of beautiful music. A Night of Beauty: Visions of Eternity
Friday, November 11, 2022 | 7 p.m. St. Gertrude Church Christopher Holman, our director of music, presents a concert of organ music composed for the liturgy and performed chronologically from the earliest keyboard music ever written to the present. The concert will culminate with the world premiere of a newly-composed piece based on the Dominican chant Salve Regina by acclaimed British composer Caitlin Harrison, who will be in attendance (visiting from Britain), She will speak about her piece prior to the world premiere and be present at the reception following the concert. |
The Power of Goodness:
A Refugee Family from Ukraine Tells Story Saturday, November 5, 2022 | 7 p.m. St. Gertrude Parish Gym Over six months ago, the armies of Russia invaded the nation of Ukraine. One refugee family will share not only their first-hand account of the horrors of the situation in Ukraine, but also how the goodness and charity of so many allowed them to survive and eventually find their way to the United States to begin their life anew. A reception with the family will follow the talk. |
Witness to the Truth: Vigil of the Saints
Monday, October 31, 2022 | 7:30 p.m. St. Gertrude Church This prayer service will focus on the varying ways that saints have witnessed to the truth of our faith. The special evening will include hymns, multiple readings from the lives and writings of the saints, Compline (night prayer), and a candlelight procession with relics. A festive reception will follow. If you are able, please bring a snack or dessert to share. |

Kickoff Mass

St. Gertrude Church We are honored to have the Most Reverend Christopher Cardone, O.P., Archbishop of Honiara (Solomon Islands), celebrate the 10 a.m. Mass on Sunday, October 30, to officially begin our centennial preparation year. As many of you know, Archbishop Cardone is a member of our Dominican Province of St. Joseph and served at St. Gertrude Church as a young priest before he began his missionary work. There will be a reception with the archbishop following Mass. |
