What Is Confirmation Preparation?

Our Confirmation Preparation ministry aims to help young men and women deepen their relationships with Jesus, grow in knowledge of the faith, and empower them to share the light of Christ in their homes, schools, and friend groups.
This two-year formation process is open to all seventh and eighth graders at St. Gertrude Parish. We begin our formation in seventh grade, and candidates may receive Confirmation at the end of their eighth grade year.* Please see our program commitments below. All Confirmation candidates are also invited to join us for our junior high youth ministry offerings. |

*Candidates who are homeschooled, enrolled in St. Gertrude School, or receive faith formation at other Catholic schools are invited to participate in our Confirmation Preparation ministry! However, they are not required to participate in the entire program to be confirmed at the parish. Some key elements may still be expected. Expectations for All Candidates (Grades 7–8)

- Parent-Candidate Sessions (parents and candidates attend): September 15, 2024; January 12, 2025; April 6, 2025
- “John 1:38” Letter: An initial letter from each candidate about why he or she is entering preparation
- Overnight Confirmation Retreat: Friday, November 8, 7 p.m.–Saturday, November 9, 7 p.m. (formerly a one-day retreat)
- Formation Meetings (candidates only): September–April, second and fourth Sundays from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m.
- Personal Spiritual Plans: Regular meetings throughout the year with parents and mentors. Use the 2024-2025 Personal Spiritual Plan Logs to enter your logs from your PSP meetings!
- Teaching Mass (attend one of two options): Tuesday, January 14 or 28, 2025
Expectations for Eighth Grade Only
- Baptismal certificate on record
- Letter to the Pastor: A brief letter demonstrating an understanding of and desire to receive Confirmation
- Sponsor Meeting: Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Confirmation Rehearsal: Friday, May 2, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m.
- Confirmation Mass: Sunday, May 4, 2024, at 3 p.m. (brief reception to follow)

Registration for 2024-2025 Confirmation Preparation open Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 9 a.m.
Cost
Confirmation Preparation costs $100/child for the required formation program. (Please note: This is an increase from last year’s fee to offset growing costs for our program offerings. Financial assistance is available for all families. Please see our registration page or contact Kristen Eggers at [email protected] for more information.)
