Sacraments & Worship

Sacraments

When celebrated worthily in faith, the sacraments confer the grace they signify – helping us respond to our call to become the Father’s adopted children. The sacraments are efficacious because Christ is at work in them and through them, “it is he who baptizes, he who acts in his sacraments in order to communicate the grace that each sacrament signifies” (CCC 1127).

The sacraments are concrete. In them, God mediates life-giving encounters with Him through His created order. The sacraments are objective encounters with God as “Other.”

Worship

In the Mass, the priest addresses the people, saying, “Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God.”

And the people respond, “It is right and just.”

As creatures, we owe God, our loving Creator, adoration and honor. We were made to worship and when we worship, life is ordered rightly.
Public worship is offered to God in the Church’s celebration of Christ’s suffering, death, and resurrection in the liturgy.

St. Gertrude is committed to a beautifully transcendent liturgy, making the sacraments readily available to parishioners, and worship that lifts the soul and pierces the heavens.

The pages in this section of our website will help you gain a deeper understanding of the sacraments and worship, and get you the details you need in order to enter more deeply into the Mystery of Christ at St. Gertrude.
