helping hands

"As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace."
– 1 Peter 4:10

Who We Are

Members of the Helping Hands ministry are compassionate men and women who give of their time and talents to provide comfort and support to families and friends who are grieving the lost of a loved one. (The Helping Hands ministry functions under the St. Gertrude Ladies of Charity, but anyone is welcome to volunteer.)

What We Do

Helping Hands members provide funeral receptions for deceased members of the parish. There are two ways to help:
  1. Provide side dishes (casseroles, green/pasta/vegetable salads, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, vegetables,  etc.), desserts, soda, water, chips, pretzels, other snacks, and occasionally paper products. (The funeral family will provide the entree, usually sandwiches, as well as bread and condiments.)
  2. Set up, replenish, and clean up the food. (It is more difficult to find people to do this than it is to find people to provide food.) This is very rewarding, and the family and guests are extremely grateful.

When a funeral reception is requested, all members of the ministry will receive an email with the day and time, along with a link to a Google Doc that lists the needed food and beverage items. Simply use the Google Doc to sign up for the items you would like to provide. If you do not have access to a computer, please call Nancy Lucas at (513) 940-2643. She will notify you by phone and enter your food donation on the spreadsheet.

When We Meet

This ministry does not have any meetings or commitments—simply volunteer your time or sign up to provide a dish or drink whenever you are able.
