Join us in studying St. Louis de Montfort’s spiritual classic, True Devotion to Mary, a book that is considered by many to be “the greatest single book of Marian spirituality ever written” (TAN Publishers). True Devotion to Mary has influenced countless souls, including Pope St. John Paul II and St. Teresa of Calcutta.
A DVD presentation of the book will begin at St. Gertrude on August 27, 2024, and run through May 27, 2025. It will conclude with Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary on May 31, 2025, following 11:30 a.m. Mass. The complete schedule can be found below. John Paul II called this book a “decisive turning point” in his life after reading it at age 19. His papal motto, “Totus Tuus,” was taken from St. Louis de Montfort’s writings on the Blessed Mother. Pope Pius IX declared that St. Louis de Montfort’s devotion to Mary was the best and most acceptable form of devotion to Our Lady.
Fr. Basil Cole, O.P., stated, “To discover the riches of following Christ as a child of Mary via St. Louis Marie de Montfort, Anne Collins’ outline will be a great resource wading through these deep theological waters." |
More Details:
The class will be presented through DVDs that were professionally recorded during the 2014-2015 class year. The material includes a thorough look at the Church’s teaching on Mariology including Marian Dogmas, Vatican Councils and numerous Marian Saints. In addition to the videos, study guides will help you dig deeper into the book. They are numerically ordered and attached below. It is important to read “TDM Introduction” before beginning the course.
The course was reviewed by Father Basil Cole, O.P., in 2012, and he has composed an introduction to the course which can be found below under “Additional Material.”
You are welcome to join us at any time during the year. You can attend just one or as many meetings as time allows. Participants often remark that they hear “exactly what I needed to hear” even if they are only able to attend a handful of sessions. Consecration is strongly encouraged even if meetings are missed.
Repeated annual participation in the study group is highly recommended in order to deepen understanding of St. Louis de Montfort’s beautiful insights and to increase filial devotion and confidence in the Blessed Mother and Her Son.
The book can be purchased at the Catholic Shop in Madeira. Be sure to get the correct version, which is St. Louis de Montfort’s “True Devotion to Mary” (translated by Father Faber) and not “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin.” They are generally the same but the former is a more exact translation from the original French. There are a total of 17 meetings/DVDs. Please bring to each meeting the TDM-Prayers (found below) plus the study guide for each section. (Note: Study-Guide-6-7 is used for two meetings).
