The first World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly will be celebrated on Sunday, July 25. “In order to increase the devotion of the faithful and for the salvation of souls,” states an article published on vaticannews.va, Pope Francis is granting plenary indulgences to grandparents, the elderly, and the faithful who, “motivated by a true spirit of penance and charity,” participate under the usual conditions: sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion, and prayer. The plenary indulgence will be granted to the faithful who devote adequate time to actually or virtually visiting the elderly who are in need or are sick, abandoned, or disabled. World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly will be observed every year on the fourth Sunday of July.
